Tori Spelling, Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears have one thing in common, they all exposed their midriff in the 1990’s in a croptop. Spotted on the S/S09 runway designers such as Alexander Wang and Chloe have embraced this 90’s trend of showing your abs, and have since hit our stores, online stores and celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Audrina Patrige.

The croptop has not come a long way since Jean Paul Gaultier dressed Madonna in a cropped-top for her 90’s tour, we still see the same thrown on look a croptop and denim jeans give. Usually the croptop was one bold colour with its cut off waist and wide neck line or a buttoned up halter. In 2009 we still see the bold colour, wide neck and cut but designers such as Chanel and YSL have tailored it into the pastel pallet and today’s cuts. Topshop has taken the crop to an 80’s influence/re-birth with shoulder pads and sequins. Recently I purchased two croptops from Topshop , one in lace with bright colored floral design and the other with shoulder pads and polka dots, however personally you won’t see me belly button out, I prefer to wear the crop with a cami or long-sleeve underneath- still giving the cropped look without the jelly belly
